Voortrekker is an old South African yacht which has achieved fame at the hands of legends such as Bertie Reed and John Martin in international ocean racing.
Most recently, the 40 year old veteran was resurrected by the Isivunguvungu Sailing School and sailed to 5th place in the Cape to Bahia Race by a young crew of novice sailors.
Owner: Rear Admiral (JG) Koos Louw, founder of the Isivunguvungu School.

Artists of the South Exhibition

I was invited to join the February Exhibition by the Artists of the South Group.
Although the exhibition was a bit quiet (must be the Worldwide Depression!) I did sell one painting and received many very favourable comments. I also recruited 3 new students for my Art Classes, so all in all a successful weekend.

New Painting: The Nelson Touch

I’m ready to upload a new Maritime painting, The Nelson Touch, but I’m waiting until it is delivered to the Dubai Offshore Sailing Club.
It was commissioned as a trophy for the Captain Bill Nelson Memorial race so it’s only fair that they get to see it first! Watch this space.

Here’s the first stage…

Stage 1

The Nelson Touch: Stage 1

The second stage, about a day later…

Stage 2

The Nelson Touch: Stage 2

I then added the sails and more detail to the hull. This was taken at the end of Day 3.

Stage 3

The Nelson Touch: Stage 3

By the end of the 4th Day, I’d added most of the detail and started adjusting elements like the sea, reflections and gunsmoke.

Stage 4

The Nelson Touch: Stage 4

Day 5 and I added rigging and other extra details, ending up like this… The final painting is posted in the Maritime Gallery page.
